About Us

Thoughtful Amazon travel rooted in local knowledge and conservation

Jungle Jim Expeditions was created to offer a different way of experiencing the Peruvian Amazon — one rooted in respect, knowledge, and genuine connection rather than speed, spectacle, or mass tourism.

Based in the Amazon region around Iquitos, we design and operate small-group jungle tours, expeditions, cultural experiences, and retreats that allow travellers to experience the rainforest as it truly is. Our focus is on understanding the forest, not consuming it — taking time to observe wildlife, learn from local knowledge, and move through the environment with care.

Our experiences range from immersive rainforest journeys and deep survival expeditions to cultural city tours and carefully guided ceremonial retreats. While each experience is different, they all share the same foundation: responsible travel, local collaboration, and a commitment to protecting the Amazon for future generations.

Jungle Jim Expeditions is co-founded and guided by people who were born and raised in the rainforest. Our guides are naturalists, Indigenous community members, and local experts who carry both ancestral knowledge and modern ecological understanding. Their role is not simply to lead, but to teach — helping visitors understand animal behaviour, plant use, river systems, and the deep relationship between Amazonian communities and their environment.

We follow a strict Zero Plastic Policy across all our operations and work directly with local families, guides, and small businesses. Tourism, when done responsibly, can support conservation, education, and community resilience — and we design every experience with this responsibility in mind.

Ethics matter to us. We avoid staged encounters, exploitative wildlife interactions, and intrusive visits to vulnerable communities. Instead, we prioritise consent, cultural sensitivity, and honest storytelling. Whether observing river dolphins, walking through flooded forest, visiting local markets, or sitting quietly in the jungle at night, our approach is always grounded in respect.

Jungle Jim Expeditions is not about ticking off highlights or chasing extremes. It’s about slowing down, paying attention, and leaving the Amazon better understood — and better protected — because you were here.

We invite you to explore the rainforest with curiosity, humility, and care — and to experience the Amazon not as a destination, but as a living world.

JAIME “JUNGLE JIM”

Co-Founder & Lead Naturalist Guide

Jaime Ernesto Chávez Flores, known in the rainforest as Jungle Jim, was born deep in the Peruvian Amazon, where rivers and forest shaped his identity from childhood. Raised in a family of fishermen and farmers, he developed an early respect for nature and a clear awareness of the challenges faced by local communities.

With more than a decade of experience guiding travellers, Jaime has become a specialist in wildlife behaviour, environmental education, and responsible exploration. His approach blends ancestral knowledge, scientific understanding, and a strong conservation ethic.

As co-founder of Wild Amazonas, Jaime’s vision is clear: to protect the rainforest through sustainable tourism, strict zero-plastic practices, and meaningful collaboration with Amazonian families. He is dedicated to teaching visitors how to read the forest — its signs, its animals, and its rhythms — while ensuring every experience supports both the land and the people who call it home.

“My mission is simple: to show the real Amazon, educate with respect, and help preserve the lungs of the Earth for future generations.”

JUNIOR PIZANGO MELÉNDEZ

Naturalist Guide

Junior Pizango Meléndez is a naturalist guide born and raised in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, within an Indigenous community where the rainforest is identity, culture, and ancestral knowledge.

Throughout his life, Junior has dedicated himself to understanding and respecting every element of this unique ecosystem. Today, he shares that knowledge with travellers from around the world through guided jungle experiences designed to offer safety, authenticity, and a deep connection with nature.

His work goes beyond showing landscapes. Junior’s goal is for each visitor to experience the Amazon from within — to understand its sounds, its spirit, and the relationship local communities maintain with the forest. With him as your guide, you don’t simply explore the jungle; you become part of a living story shaped by generations who have learned to coexist with this sacred land.

Junior maintains a strong commitment to conservation and respect for the Amazonian ecosystem, promoting responsible practices that benefit both nature and local communities.

He invites travellers to discover the Amazon through an experience that is authentic, safe, and deeply meaningful. Those who visit the rainforest do more than take part in an adventure — they connect with a world that deserves protection.

“The Amazon is life, history, and future. To care for it is to honour who we are and protect what is yet to come.”
