WILD AMAZONAS — 4-DAY AMAZON RAINFOREST ADVENTURE

A deeper journey into the Amazon, with time to learn, explore, and slow down

Journey to the Amazon’s birthplace, encounter rare wildlife, learn survival skills, and experience the rainforest by day and night

A four-day immersion designed for travellers who want more than a brief introduction to the Amazon. This journey builds on the essentials — river origins, wildlife encounters, and jungle exploration — while allowing extra time to learn survival skills, observe wildlife at a slower pace, and experience the rainforest from multiple perspectives.

Thoughtfully paced and intentionally low-impact, this small-group tour focuses on understanding the forest rather than rushing through it. You’ll learn about medicinal plants, animal behaviour, and the deep relationship local communities have with the river and rainforest, all while travelling in line with Wild Amazonas’ strict Zero Plastic Policy and commitment to conservation and community support.

Itinerary

DAY 1 — Arrival, Birthplace of the Amazon & Prehistoric Bird Encounter

After pick-up in Iquitos, travel by road to Nauta before boarding a comfortable, roofed boat to begin your journey along the Marañón River. Along the way, stop at the iconic point where the Marañón and Ucayali Rivers meet to form the Amazon — a powerful introduction to the scale and significance of this ecosystem.

Arrive at the eco-lodge around 1:00–2:00 PM for lunch and time to settle in.
In the afternoon, explore a quiet lagoon in search of the hoatzin, a rare and fascinating bird often described as prehistoric due to its ancient traits and unusual behaviour. Its slow movements, striking crest, and unique biology make this a memorable wildlife encounter.

After dinner, head into the forest on a guided night walk, using lanterns to spot frogs, insects, tarantulas, and other nocturnal species as the jungle takes on a completely different atmosphere.

DAY 2 — Survival Skills, Dolphin Encounters & Caiman Night Safari

Begin the day learning practical Amazon survival skills with your guide. This hands-on session covers how to locate clean water, identify edible and medicinal plants, and read natural signs used by people who live in the rainforest.

In the afternoon, travel to an area known for pink and gray river dolphins. Observe their behaviour, learn about their ecology and cultural significance, and, in a calm and safe section of the river, enjoy an optional supervised swim.

After nightfall, head out by boat for a quiet canoe safari. Using reflected eye-shine along the riverbanks, search for caimans, nocturnal birds, and other wildlife active after dark — a calm and atmospheric Amazon night experience.

DAY 3 — Sunrise Birdwatching, Piranha Fishing & Slow Wildlife Exploration

Rise early for birdwatching as the rainforest wakes. Macaws, toucans, kingfishers, and many other species are most active in the cool morning hours, offering excellent opportunities for observation and photography.

Later in the morning, try traditional piranha fishing techniques and learn about the role these fish play in the river ecosystem and local life.

In the afternoon, enjoy a slow boat journey through quieter sections of the Yarapa River. This unhurried exploration increases the chances of spotting sloths, iguanas, and different monkey species moving through the canopy, depending on the season.

After dinner, gather to hear traditional Amazonian stories and legends passed down through generations, offering cultural insight into how the forest is understood and respected.

DAY 4 — Giant Trees & Return to Iquitos

On your final morning, take a guided jungle walk to visit a massive ancient tree, a living symbol of the rainforest’s resilience, scale, and ecological importance.

Return to the lodge for lunch before beginning the journey back by boat to Nauta and onward by road to Iquitos.
End of service.
